However, despite The Phantom Menace having

such a large budget and earning a total gross

income of $431 million the film didnt too great
rating wise. The film only managed to score 6.5
out of 10 from IMDB. However, low scores are
surprisingly common within Sci-Fi films.
Therefore, despite having big budgets and
tremendous revenue they do not triumph rating
wise.

Casting
The Star Wars franchise are not often linked with having mainstream and a-list celebrities
in their films and they tend to look towards the more unknown actors. This is because Star
Wars was already such a large franchsie that they didnt have to rely on the names of
actors to attract watchers but they could rely on the name Star Wars and in film
characters such as Anakin Skywalker and Oni-Wan Kenobi However, they do tend to have a
couple of powerhouse names to help attract an audience. These stellar names consisted of
Liam Neeson, Christopher Lee and Samuel L Jackson

Sound
Star Wars have consistently generated and composed very good music. The music is used
to enhance the moods and excite the audience and prepare them for the next scene. For
example, when Darth Maul is seen before a fight scene you get a dark and deep orchestral
tune whereas when Anakin wins his pod race the music is upbeat and you get the easy link
towards the fact that he is a child and therefore the music comes across as innocent and
compliments his character. In addition to this, when Anakin is left with the decision to
leave his mothers side to join the Jedi order a sad piano song comes into play thus
tampering with the audiences emotions even more. Dialogue within Star Wars is very
futuristic, with words such as midichlorians and lightsaber the audience instantly
assumes it is a sci-fi film.

Costume & Props

Costume designs for characters in Star Wars are quite distinguished; a certain family group
will have their own certified costumes. For instance, Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan
McGregor) wears quite light colours to identify that he is pure hearted and completely linked
with the light side or good side. Whereas a character such as Count Dooku (played by
Christopher Lee) wears all black identify that he is pure evil and this allows the audience to
easily make this link. In addition to this, props such as blaster (guns) and lighsabers are
used to distinguish who is bad and who is good. For instance, the Jedi use blue coloured
lighsabers whereas the Sith use red ones. Red is often used to identify danger and evil,
whereas the colour blue is often used to show innocence and purity.
