Amelia Scanland was the Principal Trumpet of the New World Youth Symphony

Orchestra in 2013, performing in Hilbert Circle Theatre. She has performed in several

other honor ensembles, including the Honor Orchestra of America (2013, 2014), and the

U.S. Army All-American Marching Band in San Antonio, TX. While in high school, she

was a member of the Marching Black and Gold, receiving Bands of America s Grand

National Championship title in 2010, and 1st place at the Indiana State School Music

Association Marching Band State Finals in 2010 and 2013, as well as performing in the

2012 Rose Bowl Parade. Being a member of Avons Wind Symphony, she also received

first place in 2012 and 2014 at ISSMAs Concert Band Competition. She received gold

ratings at the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble in 2013 and 2014, and was a featured soloist of

Avons Brass Choir in 2014.

Currently, Amelia is an undergraduate student in Trumpet Performance at Ball

State University. The recipient of a Presidential Scholarship in the Arts, she has been

active in a variety of the universitys ensembles, including the Symphony Band, Jazz

Ensemble II, and the Wind Ensemble. Amelia is the Principal Trumpet of Ball States

Symphony Orchestra, and is a member of the Muncie Symphony Orchestra Outreach

Brass Quintet.

Amelia was also a member of the 2015-2016 BSU Fanfare Trumpet Ensemble,

performing for various events around the state including the ISSMA State Marching Band

Finals (2015). In the summer of 2016, Amelia traveled on a cross-country tour with the

ensemble receiving an invitation to perform at the International Trumpet Guild

Conference held in Anaheim, CA.


Besides performing, Amelia is a music advocate for children and for those with

disabilities. Amelia has given free lessons to children in the Muncie area and is a member

of Prism Project, a program designed to help autistic children perform the arts, as well as

a member of United Sound, a program to teach young adults with disabilities to play

instruments. She is also building a private trumpet studio of her own in the Muncie area.
