To: Whom it May Concern,

It has been a pleasure getting to know Grant Washburn this year. Mr. Washburn was a student of
mine at the University of Arkansas and he stood out among his peers. During this time he
participated in class discussions, was involved in class activities, kept an open mind, and
contributed to class concepts. Mr. Washburn was able to expanded concepts in class discussions
and then incorporated them in his presentations and class work. He has strong ethical standards
and high expectations. He manages his time wisely, is focused, and always punctual, prepared,
and ready to learn.

When teaching, Mr. Washburn has strong communication skills. He is an excellent writer,
speaks effectively, and is personable. With students he is able to have them expand their
thinking and creates opportunities for class discussion. Mr. Washburn is focused on taking
students where they are academically and helping them reach their full potential. He also
understands that to do this it takes creating and nurturing relationships. An example of Mr.
Washburns character is see as he supports and coaches basketball at Har-Ber High School. I see
him regularly with students and his demeanor with the students and staff is second to none. He
fully understands what it takes to reach the whole child.

Mr. Washburn was a pleasure in class and a joy to see teach. He has much to offer and will be
successful in his teaching career. Please give him your utmost consideration.

Thank You,

Marcia S. Smith, Ph. D.
