Ground Water-Life line of the

Nation

Thousands live without love but not without

water
The excess amount of water move deeper into the
ground and fills the spaces in the rocks .this is known as
groundwater. Ground water is one of the most valuable sources of
fresh water .it supplies water to the well and lakes.

It is a source of clean water drinking. The main reason in

importance of water in our diet it helps the body to perform
specific tasks and regulates the body temperature. The most
significant fact is that water contains mo calories and plays a
major factor in loss weight.

Composition of water in our earth

There is 98% of saline water of the oceans in our
earth.
2% of the water is fresh water
The 2%consist in the frozen state and it is accessible
from streams, ponds, lakes, rivers, wells and in
underground sources.
The 98% of saline water is unfit for human
consumption and it is not use full far growing crops
and industrial purpose.

Depletion of groundwater
Owing to increase of population and increase in industries is
also the main reason in which every manufacturing material
requires water. It deals with the type of industry. Industries
dealing with thermal power textiles and paper require huge
quantities of water.

Uncontrolled increase in population and increase in number

of industries is also the main reason in which every manufacturing
materials recquires water. It deals with the type of industry.
Industries dealing with thermal, power textiles and paper require
huge quantities of water.

Inadequate supply of water in India

Groundwater, which is in aquifers below the earth, is one of
the nations most important natural resources. 33% of the
groundwater of the country and city water departments supply to
the households and business (public supply). It provides us about
90% of the drinking water of the rural population.

Rain is one of the main sources of freshwater. But it doesnt

fall evenly all over the world. The most overburdened aquifers are
in the worlds driest areas, on underground water example: states
like Rajasthan and Gujarat in India.

Some places like the tropical evergreen forest receive rain

everyday while desert like region receive little or no rain due to
this there is less recharge of groundwater is taking place. On
other hand there is not a proper method to store groundwater .

Ways to conserve water

Disposing of chemical properly.
Limit the amount of fertilizer used on plants land use
regulations , land acquisition and education
programmers can play a key role in protecting ground
water
Land use plans which take into account groundwater
vulnerability

Fact
India faces many issues of scarcity of water due to
lack of proper method of conserving water.

Usage of groundwater in major states

Utrapradesh-49.5, Punjab-34.5, Madhyapradesh-18.0,
Maharshtra-1.7 Tamilnadu-16.6, Rajasthan-14.5, Andhra pardesh-
14.2, Gujarat -13.0, Haryana-12.4 Bihar-11.4, West Bengal-10.9,
Karnataka-10.0.

Here, irrigation accounts nearly 90% of groundwater.

View over the worldwide

About 23% of the fresh water used in the United States and
other 77% came from surface water.

The report from the NASA

Groundwater is disappearing fast from the world and India is
among the worst hit, show from NASAs gravity recovery and
climate experiment GRACE satellites.

Potential sources of Groundwater

contamination

Storage tanks
Septic systems
Uncontrolled hazardous waste
Land fills
Chemicals and road salts
Atmospheric contaminants

Storage Tanks

It contains gasoline, oil, chemicals, or other types of liquids

and they can either be above or below ground. Overtime the
tanks can corrade, crack and develop leaks. If the
contaminants leak out and get into the groundwater, serious
contamination can occur.

Septic Systems

Septic systems are designated to slowly drain away human

waste underground at a slow, harmless rate. An improperly
designed, located, constructed or maintained septic systems
can leak bacteria, viruses, household chemicals, and other
contaminants into the groundwater causing serious problems.

Uncontrolled Hazardous Waste

Hazardous waste sites can lead to groundwater

contamination if there are barrels or other containers laying
around that are full of hazardous materials. If there is a leak,
these contaminants can eventually make their way down through
the soil and into the groundwater.

Landfills
Landfills are the places that our garbage is taken to be buried.
Landfills are supposed to have a protective bottom layer to
prevent contaminants from getting into the water. However, if
there is no layer or it is cracked, contaminants from the landfill
(car battery acid, paint, household cleaners, etc.) can make their
way down into the groundwater.

Chemicals and Road Salts

The widespread use of chemicals and road salts is another
source of potential groundwater contamination. Chemicals include
products used on lawns and farm fields to kill weeds and insects
and to fertilize plants, and other products used in homes and
businesses. When it rains, these chemicals can seep into the
ground and eventually into the water. Road salts are used in the
wintertime to put melt ice on roads to keep cars from sliding
around. When the ice melts, the salt gets washed off the roads
and eventually ends up in the water.

Atmospheric Contaminants
Since groundwater is part of the hydrologic cycle, contaminants
in other parts of the cycle, such as the atmosphere or bodies of
surface water, can eventually be transferred into our groundwater
supplies.

Conclusion
To a Thirsty man, drop of water is worth more than a sack of
Gold hence we should conserve water every human beings
needs water to lead his/her life. Therefore its everyones duty
to preserve water not only for present movement but also for
our future generation.
