To the Parents and Guardians of Mrs.

*******s PreK Class,

Hello again! This is a letter from Jade Raad and Jackie Tonies. Over the last few months, we
have had the pleasure of working with the students in Mrs. *******s class. We enjoyed
watching the students grow and learn. We implemented an investigation with the students on the
topic of the human body, specifically how the human body moves. Throughout our
investigation, we focused on muscles, bones, and joints and how all three work together to help
our bodies perform movements.

We wanted to share with you the various activities we did with the students. First, we discussed
with the students what muscles look like and how they work together to help our bodies move.
We played a movement game with the students. Through the movement game, the students
could use hands-on materials to explore different body movements, such as: jumping, clapping,
spinning, and stomping. We then placed a sensory table in the classroom filled with rubber
bands. This experience allowed the students to discover different ways a rubber band can expand
and contract much like the muscles in our bodies.

We then moved onto discussing with the students how muscles expand and contract. We built a
model of an arm using various art materials, such as: cardboard tubes, balloons, paper clips, and
tape. The cardboard tubes represented the humerus, ulna, and radius bones. The balloons
represented the bicep and tricep muscles. The paper clip represented the elbow joint. The tape
held all the different parts of the arm together. The purpose of the arm model was to allow the
students to explore how muscles expand and contract by having them experiment with a hands-
on model of an arm. We also wanted the students to observe how all the muscles, bones, and
joints in our bodies work together to make our bodies move. Finally, we finished our
investigation with a yoga activity. The students were able to move and stretch their bodies in
different ways along with a yoga video called the Washing Machine Song! by Cosmic Kids. It
was a fun and interactive way to get the students excited to move.

Again, it has truly been a pleasure interacting with the students and watching them develop over
the last few months. We appreciate you allowing us to be a part of your students education.

Sincerely,

Jade Raad and Jackie Tonies
