Science News Project

Directions:

1. Find a recent SCIENCE article in the newspaper, in a science magazine, or on a

reputable Internet site (you may use the links I have provided on my website).
The article may not be opinion article nor may it be from a blog. If you have any
questions about whether or not an Internet site is reputable, ask Mr. Buresh.

2. After thoughtfully reading and considering your news article, please respond to
the following questions in the form of about a two pages, double-spaced typed
paper. Try to be innovative in your responses. Do not just repeat what is exactly
in the article. It is ok to choose the same article as another student and then
discuss the article before writing. However, everybody will ultimately be doing
their writing independently.

3. The news project is due on next Wednesday, May 10th.

4. In general, you may choose to read and write about an article in any science field,
such as environmental science, genetics, medicine, technology, etc. However,
during some months you will be required to find an article on chemistry. I will let
you know at the beginning of the month.

5. These monthly news projects is entered as a project grade (which is 25% of your
quarter grade). Be prepared to be called on in class to discuss your article.

6. Your report should include the following:

a. A summary of the goal of the article.

b. A description of three main points that discuss the authors beliefs towards
the topic of interest in the article
c. The advantages and disadvantages of the topic or study.

authors beliefs or disagree with them?
e. What further scientific questions arise from the article? What is left to find
out?
f. What other areas of science can this study extend to?
