To Whom it May Concern:

It is my pleasure to tell you about Abril Perez Torres and describe why she is an amazing woman and a wonderful

candidate for the Brad Fowler Memorial Scholarship. Though I have only known Abril for a few months as her teacher in

both her AP English Literature and her AVID classes, she made an incredible impression on me as an extremely focused

and ambitious young woman who is positive and proactive in the pursuit of her goals.

One of the things that impresses me the most is that Abril is one of those students who finds unique ways to take

advantage of every opportunity available to ensure she is always improving, even in the face of difficult and challenging

obstacles. She has overcome the challenges of not having the full support of her family with regard to her higher goals in

education, and has managed to use the lack of support to motivate her to work harder and prove certain people wrong.

She has found ways to bring up her own self confidence and become an extremely successful and very involved student.

Equally impressive is Abrils use of activities to further herself as a dedicated and determined woman. She has

participated in JROTC here at San Diego High, and been named Battalion Commander, a position of great respect and

responsibility. Furthermore, she finds time to volunteer with both the LEO Club and the Key Club working to better her

own community through service beyond herself. It has been through all of these activities and her own experiences that

Abril truly developed a greater sense of teamwork and leadership and made lasting connections to school and her

community.

Ultimately, I know without a doubt, that Abril will make her mark on the world and is so deserving of every

opportunity and advantage to do so. As such, she is the perfect candidate to receive the benefit of the Brad Fowler

Memorial Scholarship and honor the commitment to athletic achievements in all manners and levels.

Sincerely,

Skye Cooke-Pinon
