Dear Advisory Board:

For my Graduation Project, I would like to learn the basics to woodworking. I have never done
any kind of woodworking, but see it as a useful skill that interests me. I would like to use this
project as a way to learn about wooden objects, such as furniture and how they are put together.

For my research paper, I will learn some of the history of woodworking and how it has evolved
throughout time. I will also break down the different parts of objects made of wood and how they
come together using many different tools. My resources will include books, periodicals, the
internet, and an interview with a retired woodshop teacher.

For my practical experience, I will have Christopher Rhodes, a retired woodshop teacher from
Valley Springs Middle School, teach me about the basics of woodworking. He will help guide
me through the steps of building a nightstand and how to use the different tools to make a more
quality product. I will spend at least 15 hours building this and practicing. To document my
hours, I will use my time log and pictures. I understand that the tools being used can be very
dangerous, so I will provide a liability waiver.

I understand that plagiarism is unethical and to avoid failing my project, I will use MLA citations.

Sincerely,

Tanner McElreath
