Canfor Pulp Innovation

c/o UBC Engineering Co-op Office

Re: Research Assistant Co-op Student

Dear Madam;

I am applying for the Coop Research Assistant position because I have always been very
interested in pulp and paper, and I can be an asset to Canfor Pulp Innovation. I have a passion
for chemistry and engineering and in my spare time I like to study new research in chemical and
material engineering. As a UBC chemical engineering student in the top of my class, I believe I
can contribute to Canfor Pulp Innovation through my good knowledge base in analytical
chemistry, knowledge in laboratory methods, and good work ethic.

My current experience with operating laboratory instruments will help me design and conduct
laboratory experiments. Having worked in sample preparation and laboratory testing for
TestAmerica, I have previous experience in data analysis and laboratory work. In addition, I
have done extensive laboratory writeups in my labor courses. These courses required an
understanding of WHMIS and workplace safety, and allowed me to work in teams of people.

In many of my courses group work is needed, and as such good communication skills are
necessary. As a result, I have developed excellent technical communication skills which should
help me to work well in the laboratory safely and effectively. I am very motivated, organized
and detail oriented. In second year chemical engineering I achieved an academic average of
90.8%. I learn quickly, I enjoy solving problems, and I am NSERC eligible.

Thank you for your time and consideration of my application. To arrange an interview, please
contact the Co-op Office at 604-822-6995 or coop.interviews@ubc.ca.

Sincerely,
Sean McGrath
