VOLUME 1 ISSUE 10 112987 S, ELEMENTARY DRIVE - HERRIMAN, UT 84096 May 2017 PHONE: 801-253-1034 Principal’s Message Dear Parents, ‘With testing in full swing, please be sure to have your students at school each day they are scheduled to test and communicate with your child’s teacher regarding any planned absences. That will ensure we get testing done before they leave or when they return Tam excited to let you know that for 2017-2018 school year we will be moving to a traditional calendar. Our first day of school will be August 23, 2017. The complete calendar is available on the Jordan District Website. Our start and end times have also changed. We will be starting school at 9:00am and the final bell will ring at 3:35pm on ‘Monday-Thursday and 1:55pm on Friday. More information will be sent out as the yeat comes to a close. Every day of white ribbon week the students will learn a new principle of online behavior reinforced through discussions and fun activities. TUESDAY - Power Boost “I will encourage those around me to make smatt choices in media and online.” ‘Wear as much WHITE as you can! - Why: Lets remember white ribbon week all year round! WEDNESDAY - Power Boost: “I will keep my personal information and passwords private. I will only share them with a parent.” Wear your shirt INSIDE OUT! - Why: Don't let personal info sip out THURSDAY - Power Boost: “I will not view, share, or pass along negative cor embazeassing information I won't gt tied up in cyber bullying!” Wear a TIE - Why: Don’t get “tied up” in eyber bullying! FRIDAY - Power Boost: “I will use technology to connect with my REAL LIFE fiends, People online are not always who they say they ae.” Dress up ike someone else — your teacher, someone famous, a police officer, etc. - Why: Sometimes people “pretend” to be who they're not ~ Volunteer Spotlight ~ Kari Fitzgerald is the volunteer of the month. She has spent many hours helping our teachers feel appreciated during Teacher “Appreciation Week! This is her second year in making it such a wonderful success. Thank vou Kasil! * Teacher and Staff Spotlights * Chelsea has been a [* grade teacher hete at Silver Crest since 2012, She feels lucky she was able to student teach at Silver Crest with Ms. Harvey in first grade. When given the opportunity to stay, she jumped at the chance to be at this wonderful school There are so many things that she loves to dol Chelsea loves to read, ‘watch movies, hike, and play games with family. She also loves to sing and dance and will often perform in ‘Community Theater shows in neighboring towns. She loves Coca-Cola, and peanut butter Twix! Chelsea is 2 true Texas gel, but says she still loves Utah, and it has defintely become home for her! She has one son ‘named Oliver, who is 16 months old, and a baby gil on the way. Her family loves to play and go new places together, This spring, they ate going to England. Before becoming a mom she went to Thailand with 2 _proup of teenagers to help a school there re-build after the tsunami of 2004. Chelsea said “The thing I love ‘most, after my family, is teaching! Its so fulfilling. Silver Crest isa spectacular place to be. The families, students, and staff here make this place like a family of its own.” We love having Chelsea at our school! Not only is she an amazing teacher, but she has served on the PTA board as 2 Teacher VP for the last 2 years! "Thanks for al you do for our i Geadets and our PTA Programs! Chelsea Ottoson Jennifer Staley Jennifer has worked in the office as our head secretary for the last 6 yeats! Before working at Silver Crest she has worked at Copper Hills High School and Riveston High School. Jen has one dog and enjoys ‘watching baseball! Her favorite treats or desserts are anything lemon, and her favorite shopping place is the Traverse Mountain Outlets! She also enjoys spending time with her family. Jen has been martied to her high school sweetheart, Wade, for 26 years. She has two children, a married son Nick, who is 23 years old. [Nick and bis wife had a lite boy on February 2 is lite boy is her first grandson, and she absolutely loves being a GRANDMA! Her daughter Jessica, is 20 years old and will be getting martied on May 56, ‘This year Jen and her husband will be traveling to the Faster Caribbean on 2 much needed vacation! She ‘would love to travel more to any place foreign. She loves the people she works with here at Silver Crest. We love having her here, and are grateful for all Jen does in the office to keep things running smoothly Jasmine Scott This s Jasmine’ fist yea at Silver Crest as our schoo! psychologist. Before coming here she worked as 4 school-based therapist for 2 years in Ohio, Her hobbies include reading, working out, and spending time with her family, She ikes to shop at Target and get an upside down nonfat caramel racchiaro from Starbucks! Jasmine has a passion for working with childten and adolescents, and being able to wateh them grow and ‘manure, She says that “the best feeling is watching one of her students make the right decision when they ate in 4 tough situation, and they handle the situation and their emotions well” What she loves most about Silver Crest is the nurturing environment where you know the teachers care about the students. She grew up in a single parent home but my mother recently got married so now she has en amazing step-father and thee step [brothers who all have their own families! She loves being home forthe holidays and spoiling her nieces and nephew and just being able to laugh, cook and eat. This year she plans to defend her dissertation and graduate, ‘She is looking forward to adding PhD after her name! She has truly enjoyed her ime here in Urab sod has fallen in love with not only the mountains but the people. This has been an amazing experience for her.
