Anti-skating adjustment The tandancy ef a tonsern with an offest (angled) head to “skate” inward across the record ia eliminated in the duel 1229 by a precision anti-sketing mechanism, Skating force depends on tonearm geometry, stylus foree and the tip radius of the stylus, The inuard gull on the tonearm caused by the skating effect gives rise not only to an Undeeizeable junping of the tonearm uhen it is set doun of the fecord, but also to unequal forces on the tuo’ opposite groove Valle, uith corresponding ill effects. This be corrected with propor anti-skating adjustment. By turning the anti-ckating adjuetrent knob (lo)‘on the chaseis, an asynmettical curved washer (258) de turned: nis uasher has tuo different curved surfaces corresponding, Pespectively, to the red and unite scales on the antivskating dial. the red scale is for conieal (epherieal tip) atyii, the white far elliptical (bi-radial) styli.
