Implications for Practice

As a future leader, it is important for the leader to know and understand the

developmental level of the students that they will influence daily. As a leader, I would first use

this document as a living document to help me make daily decisions. I worked at a childcare

center while attending high school. I would observe how the children complete certain task and

would see that some developmental milestones were not fully developed. At the time, I did not

realize or understand that. I would often just correct the problem or assist them with help to

master a particular skill. For example, holding a pencil incorrectly; I would simply correct the

mistake.

I would also use my knowledge of the developmental stages to better assist teachers. I

reflect and think of beginning teachers, often times they enter the field and they have to learn

their way and figure things out alone. Having access to and knowing this information will help

me help them. In addition, I will be able to help veteran teachers. Often time veteran teachers

become overwhelmed and develop their own belief of how the students should act and behave. I

will be able to help veteran teachers, redirect their thinking, and help the teachers recall the

developmental stages of the children.

Lastly, I will use this knowledge to help teachers create lessons that are developmentally

appropriate for their classroom to ensure student success.
