What I Have Learned in English 101

This was my first time taking College-level English and I must say I learned quite
a lot. I learned about details more than anything and how to write in MLA format. I
would say the most meaningful exercise was being able to have discussions with other
people about a specific topic or essay. It is nice to have an opinion and feel included.
This wasnt my first college class but it was the first blended class I took and I like it
much better than any regular class where each individual just does their work and
nobody else is involved. The most enjoyable essay I read in class was Champion of
the World, by Maya Angelou. I think she is just amazing when it comes to details in an
essay, you feel almost engaged in whatever is happening in her writing. In response to
Maya Angelous essay, I wrote about how two races were depending on a boxing match
to gain pride and respect due to one boxer being African-American and the component
being Caucasian. I went into detail about why something that means so little today,
meant so much back in the 1930s. I felt like I could have a long discussion with a
classmate about her essay. Personally, in my opinion my best essay would be
Marijuana and its danger to Society.
I had a chance to write my own essays, both on personal experiences and on
role playing. I had a chance to see things from a different point of view and research
about it. This research pushed me to look at a whole website and not miss any
important points. I realized that some websites arent the best to use and that you cant
rely on biased information.
I now know how to write a decent essay and cite properly. This class has very
much prepared me for whats next to come. That being English 102, of course. I have
the knowledge some people dont have when it comes to writing an essay, therefore I
can help someone else.
