Immigration: Crossing the border, No Juan Left behind. (My dad's name is Juan

so it makes it Punny)
Moving to the United States: Its Borderline Dangerous! (Prefer this one, doesnt

sound as racist as the first one)

Thesis: Although Mexico is considered to be a beautiful touristic site, life for civilians in the 90s

was full of turmoil, ultimately leading to the surplus of Mexicans, including my own father,

coming to the United States in search of a better life

I. Part of the turmoil that Mexico faced in the 90s was government corruption and

the devaluing of money in the Peso Crisis.


A. Government Corruption is nothing new to Mexico; til this day we

still hear of it on the news.


1. A major event that lead to uprising was the death of

Luis Donaldo Colosio, a politician who was running for President.


B. Mexico faced the devaluation of money in the Peso Crisis.
1. Money lost its value; bills became cents.
2. It took years before the economy was able to

recover from the crisis.

II. People are willing to risk their lives crossing the border all to seek a better life for

them and their families.

III. Once in the United States, finding a job that will hire immigrants becomes a

difficult reality that Latinos face.


A. For men, most tend the fields, and women try to find cleaning jobs.
B. Child care among the latino community also becomes common.
C. Many people try to find jobs in mexican restaurants to avoid

language barriers.

IV. Crossing the border also means experiencing culture shock upon settling in the

US.
A. People speak a different language than you, so you must adjust.
B. The style of dressing, or what was considered hip is different

than what you are use to.


C. Instead of small ranches, you are surrounded by big cities.
