whereas countries in east Asia also prefer to use LEED as assessment tools.
Figure xx: LEED-EBOM projects certified outside US by region (Joel Ann Todd , Chris Pyke &
Robert Tufts, 2013, Figure 3)
Projects certifying outside the United States under LEED-EBOM show different patterns, as
illustrated in Figure xx. Europe and East Asia have similar numbers of projects; Gold projects
predominate in both areas with Silver level certification having the second largest number of
projects in both areas. In East Asia there are more Platinum than Certified projects, while the
opposite is true in Europe. In South Asia, Platinum-level certification has the most projects with
Gold second. The Latin America and Caribbean region shows the more typical pattern of Gold
projects predominating, followed by Silver, Certified and Platinum. Africa and Middle East and
North Africa each had only one project certified. (Joel Ann Todd , Chris Pyke & Robert Tufts ,
2013)
Comparing with BREEAM
Table xx: International usages of LEED and BREEAM (Raymond J. Cole & Maria Jose
Valdebenito, 2013, Table 1)
BREEAM and LEED are two of the most mature and widely internationally recognized systems
with the greatest number of assessed buildings/accredited professionals and, by virtue of their
associated brand recognition, they have the greatest presence outside their respective countries
of origin. (Raymond J. Cole & Maria Jose Valdebenito, 2013)
