The Great Gatsby Essay Self-Assessment

Literary Analysis Research Paper

1. Write a brief summary describing the main point of your essay.

The main point of my essay was that the Great Gatsby was a satire, and that Americans morals
during the 1920s were not right. People living in this time period were very materialistic.

2. Is your thesis strong? Why or why not?

I think that my thesis is strong because it describes the three topics that I am going to talk about
throughout my essay.

3. What is the most well-developed part of your essay? Explain why its so fantastic.
The most well developed part of my essay is my introduction because I bring up some
information about the 1920s and set up the essay. Then I tell what I am going to talk about in
each paragraph.

4. How do you transition and tie your ideas together?

I transition by talking about how Fitzgerald uses satire then I go on to talk about the scenes
where I saw the satire in the beginning of all of my paragraphs. Followed by my research about
the 1920s.

5. Why should the reader believe what you have to say? What makes you reliable?
The reader should believe what I say because not only did I read the book I did a lot of research
about the book, author, and also the time period. The research I found about the book and time
period it takes place in makes all of my information reliable.

6. How does your conclusion tie up your main ideas? How does it leave the reader thinking?
My conclusion ties up my main ideas by restating all of my topics, and adding a few notes. It
leaves the reader thinking because I say why Fitzgerald wrote the book the way he did, or why I
think he did it this way. Saying this leaves them thinking about the reason Fitzgerald wrote the
book the way he did.
