Dear Ms. Oberg

While the first semester of my most important year in high school is coming to a close, I
realize that this year has opened my eyes to seeing college in such a different perspective. While
AMES does offer certain college courses, which is nice, because it exposes us to the college life,
and class material, other schools do not necessarily have this resource.

I feel like AMES has prepared us very well for college for a couple reasons.. The first
being the AMES mission statement being Our mission is to prepare a diverse student body for
success in college, or post-secondary education. This message to me means that they want us to
succeed at school, go to college, or at least continue our education in some way after high school.
The encouragement from teachers and the rest of the staff definitely show on how much they
really want you to succeed. Being a charter school is also helpful, because they are smaller than
public schools, so they do give you more time to connect and form relationships with teachers,
and I feel like some of the classes in college will be like that (depending on what classes you
choose to take).

To prepare myself for the different college environment, I feel like I need to start
managing my time better, along with handling my stress better, so I am less stressed more often.
I also need to work on being more tolerant of people that I dont really mix well with. (because
its life and I know I need to get over myself). AMES has prepared me for college in a very well
covered state in my opinion, and I really dont know what else to say or how they could really
improve, so thats pretty good. The last thing I really enjoy with AMES is how sometimes they
have alumni come in, and talk about their experiences and the advice they give about their
college experience so far, and how we can prepare from what they have experienced.
