Agricultural Pumps for Irrigation (3 Days of Training)

In this three-day training program, ministry personnel and extension professionals will learn about types
of irrigation pumps and their use in agriculture. Following the training, attendees will be able to assist
farmers in pump selection and sizing, ways to reduce the costs of pumping, and how to troubleshoot
common pumping problems. Topics include:

Types of pumps used in irrigation including turbine, submersible and centrifugal


Fuel sources for pumping, including gasoline, diesel, and electricity, as well as solar and wind
power
Pump selection for sprinkler, surface and flood irrigation
Site information and considerations needed for proper pump selection
Efficiency and costs of pumping
Using wind and solar power for pumping
Sizing of storage facilities for wind and solar systems
Troubleshooting common pump problems

Extension Methods - Working with Farmers (2 Days of Training)

In this two-day training program, ministry personnel and extension professionals will learn how to
establish effective working relationships with farmers, how to develop high impact extension programs
and on-farm demonstrations, and how to document the results. Topics include:

How Farmers Learn New Knowledge


Finding and Using Innovators and Early Adopters
Organizing and using local groups in Extension programing
Planning and Implementing Field Demonstrations
Information needed to plan and document irrigation demonstrations
Evaluation for Program Success
