INFRARED TOTAL
HYDROCARBON ANALYZER Page 1 of 1

TITLE: INFRARED TOTAL HYDROCARBON ANALYZER

DEPARTMENT: TECHNICAL SUPPORT

DESCRIPTION:

The main advantage of infrared sensors

over catalytic and flame ionization
detectors (FID) is that it is unaffected by
catalytic inhibitors and poisons. It also
does not consume the sample gas
(unlike other types of detectors which
consume themselves in the process).

The advantages above make the

infrared-based system suitable for
stand-alone applications as the sensor
will practically last indefinitely and will
retain calibration for months at a time.

Finally, to address the inherent lower

sensitivity disadvantage of IR compared
to combustion-based sensors, the IR
Total Gas system is designed with both
low-range and full-range sensor-transmitter sets to achieve a comparable and respectable
0.1% sensitivity and repeatability.
