Literacy and Social Studies:

Fundations: Unit 14:


Question of the Week: How can a great idea make our lives easier?
Class Story: Simple Machines
Center Story: Dot and Jabber and the Great Acorn Mystery (last week we
read this story as a group this week the students will partner-read and
write about the story).
Read Aloud: Charlottes Web
Vocabulary and academic language: gadget, equipment, convenient,
engine, pilot, steer, cellar, and furnace.
Review: draw conclusions, animal fantasy, and theme.

Reading Street: Unit 5 Week 4: The over-arching theme for this unit
is the notion of Great Ideas. The students will continue to work in their
assigned reading groups with center work that is individualized (by group).
Each week, all students will work on answering text-based questions in
writing, partner-read, and work on word analysis (for reading and spelling).

Events:
*Thursday, June 15 th : First Grade Year in Review! Come
celebrate with us from 5:30-6:30.
*Extra homework help: Wednesday mornings at 8:00. Please send in a note
the day before if your child will be attending. *last week!
*Helpful tip: ask your child to make predictions before they read, and to
summarize the story when they are finished.
