Concept Outline
This idea is a music video for Jon Bellions song, iRobot. It is a narrative piece which
will be non-linear, as the idea revolves around having the footage being in reverse. It
will start with a guy and a girl meeting up, with the girl about to give the news that
theyre going to break up. The video will then be thrown in reverse, as we view the
guys walk from his house to the meet-up.
This reverse concept will create that darker tone, as the suddenly excited walk to
his girlfriend is juxtaposed and looks like its getting sadder and sadder. I will use
specific shots to further create this mood, such as a flower being picked, sending
and receiving a text and close-ups of smiles (which will look like they are
disappearing in reverse.
To further create interest, I will also have the main character lip sync the lyrics
backwards too, so that final footage will look like he is correctly singing the words
whilst moving in reverse. This will also be accompanied by the character slowly
having his face covered in a circuit-styled face paint the closer to the end of the
song we get.
This idea was selected over another music video for the Jon Bellion song Woke the
F*ck Up, which followed the narrative of the inside of a head of a character, with part
of his unconscious getting free and taking back control of his mind to enjoy life and
be less serious. To decide on an idea, I held a focus group, with every participant
liking both ideas, but with a preference of iRobot. The reasons varied from liking
the reversed footage concept to simply finding the whole thing more enjoyable.
Below is a mindstorm of both ideas, along with a mood board that gives a few basic
visual looks into how parts of the video will be.

Target Audience
Jon Bellions target audience is heavily varying because he doesnt fit into a specific
genre, nor does he aim to cater toward a specific group. However, his audience as it
is fits within the age range of about 16 35 year olds. Majority of his fans are mostly
American, due to his New York roots. Although he does have audiences in countries
all over the world, with his music slowly become more mainstream in the UK.
To cater toward this audience, the actors and actresses fit within this age range, as
well as containing an idea that is they would find interesting. The cast are also all
English, which, although it goes against the typical American target audience, it will
help Jon Bellion gain more notoriety in the UK. Furthermore, other music videos for
Jon Bellions songs are visually unique in some way, which my music video will be
through the reverse concept.

Cast and Crew

There are four main people who are part of the cast and crew. The actors and ac-
tresses are Joseph Weston, Daniel West and Rosie Blake. All three have worked in
similar projects before, and so would be perfect for this role. Rosie Blake has also
been called in to assist with the circuitry face paint, due to her previous work in a
Demons music video. In addition, Daniel West will be working as a cameraman for
certain scenes too.
In the case of unavailability, there have been several contingencies that have been
put in place as replacements. Extra actors include Megan Dunstan, Daniel Crocker
and Joseph Poole, whom all have previous acting experience that fit the roles. Louis
Preece and/or Owen Riseley are two people that have been placed on call for
camera work if required. In addition, Dani Burnham will be contacted if the need for

3
another make-up artist arises, as she also helped in a previous project in a similar
light.
Below is a call sheet for the main selection of cast and crew:

Resources
The costumes in the video are simple to source as they will be casual wear for the
age group of the actors. The only props that will be required are flowers, phones and
face paint. The phones and face paint have already been acquired, and the flowers
will be purchased at a local store and will cost roughly 20.

Budget
The cast and crew consist mainly of one director, two camera operators and one
make-up artist. There are also three actors/actresses. The camera operators are
paid 155 each for 8 hours of work, which, for the allotted two-week filming time will

4
come to 1085 for both. For make-up artists, the total cost will come to 135. The di-
rectors fee is negotiable, and based on the scaling of a rate card, roughly 160 per 8
hours would work best, which would come to a total of 1120 for the time filming.
For post-production, there will be a single editor for film, sound and effects. Our plan
is to have five days between the 5th and 9th of June to be devoted to the editing of the
music video. The rates for an editor are 155 per 8 hours, and so will come to 775
for the editing time. As well as this, hiring out a local editing suite will cost 250 per
5 hour session, so will be 1250 for the time I will spend for editing.
The camera I will use is the Sony NEX-5 which costs 29 per day. For the various
equipment I am planning to use, the total amount will be 26 per day. As such, for
both camera and equipment, the value for the whole shoot comes to 385.
With all this taken into account, the whole project will come to a required cost of
4750.
