While working on the Discourse Community Map and having the assignment completed,
I felt a sense of accomplishment based on what project was asking about. The sense of
accomplishment that I felt was knowing what genre, lexis and other things mean for and what
they are deem necessary for writing. Also, I know how to break down subparts of reading to
make it more easier to write. The Discourse assignment can be used in future such as in the
Rhetorical Assignment that will be assigned to us. I believed that the criteria for the assignment
was met, however, I believed that more can be put into the assignment such as more examples of
the examples that Swales had given to give the audience (which are the students) a better
understanding of the discourse community map. As for the writing process of the assignment, I
personally believe that it facilitated my progress in writing. Since the Discourse community map
focused on breaking down concepts in reading and knowing how to write. During the revision
process, there could be some subjects that revised to make it better and instead on doing the
Discourse Map on individuals, we could have done it on a particular subject to expand our
knowledge on the discourse community map. The readings did help us understand more of the
concept of the discourse community and to complete the assignment. Not only did it provide
what discourse maps are about and what types of things should be in the map itself.
