Dear Mr. Bender:

I am a sophomore at San Dieguito Academy High School in Encinitas, California. For my English 10
class, I am working on a project where I get to choose to learn about anything that interests me. I have
chosen to learn how to paint a large portrait and I am hoping to learn more about painting techniques.

In my project I will learn the skills of painting and composing a piece and, additionally, I will be
completing one large portrait as a final product. One of the requirements is that I conduct two interviews
with professionals in my field of interest. Because you are a very skilled artist and teacher, I would like to
interview you on the techniques you use when painting and how to mix a palette.

If possible, please let me know if you are available and willing to be interviewed. I need to conduct my
interviews by the middle of April? so that I have time to conduct the interview and finish my project. I
would be willing to conduct the interview face to face, by phone or email, whichever is

most convenient for you.
