MARTY FRIEDMAN Wes Clie) eC booklet ue) INSIDE EDGE PRODUCTIONS oe Guitar Series Stereo Hi-fi - WHS - 5 mon. Introduction Many of the following exercises are played essentially rubato, which means they are played with elasticity and freedom of tempo; in other words, there are slight accelerandos and ritardandos alternating according to the musical expression, Also, some of the exercises are in odd time signatures and/or changing time signatures. When transcribing this material, we grouped odd-meter measures in such a way as to help the reader see the musical phrase lengths. These odd groupings can also be played in common (4/4 or 3/4) time. Marty uses these devices often when playing in 4/4 or 3/4 time, Hearing the Chords Example | Hearing the Chords Example 2 —_—3— -—3——— ae a CS oo Marty Friedman Example 2 continued Hearing the Chords Example 3 ey olocs | > rprhn (th4 oH Marty Friedman Example 4 continued tr earing the Chords Example 4 continued Example 5: Scales A De 3—t_4435 Pattern Combinations Example 6: Patterns Pattern Combinations Example 7 Minor Keys Example 8: Following the chords continued 10 Minor Keys Example 8 continued Am lftee™ s Be. ~ (See Bos a aa fa oe oh nann (a BOR B — 5928-9, O)400-9 946 49) = xX Marty Friedman Example 8 continued a oy OR nS 6 ee if ps SS zs BOR B te) (BR ~~ continued 1 Minor Keys Example 8 continued Marty Friedman Example 8 continued 2F AAA A Dm 4 - : pS BR r EEE E = 2 t ee wa B_R sh ah a OY pasta peop Tt 3 71 B 13 14 Minor Keys Example 9: Diminished Fath, rs ez co ue t eo x = eee ae a 13-—10 —7-}10-- 7 # R32 9 4 9 ” ——6-| | = 43-=40-13-10-1310- 7-40 5 -410--7-10-710 7-4-7447 WANA a iL fe ioe neat to 2 re A ~~ A 45 4 FAFA $= a A 6 ae z FA TATA 74 Marty Friedman Example 10: Diminished E — fy TN io aman SR za f fe on 2 Z etet 5 ak 2 x2 =o 3 PN 3 3 : 4 lO 7613, 16 13613 11-1013 1013108 7 107 107 65 7 5 7 5 continued 15 Minor Keys Example 10 continued 16 Building a Melody Example 11; Melody Building a Melody Example [1 continued sar fet te bras i _—_— Mary Friedman Example 12 continued Arpeggios Example 13: A Major A gee germane rit. of. of cad accel ———— = Fr £0- +3— 40- 9 3 -B 42 Marty Friedman Example 15: A minor and C Major Expanding Arpeggios Example 16: C Major Cc - 6 oe FE Marty Friedman Example 17 Cc 8va jz wy — =~ aera loco ths Picking Example 18 f @. - = = 8 6 +0———_46- 9 3 40- a2 42 Example 19 8va Example 19 continued Marty Friedman loco — f = [6-8-6 6-8 5-6-5 — 5 # 25 Bending Example 20: Target notes D RB.
