Escaping Unjustice

In 1951, Max desfor captured a photo of Korean refugees from Pyongyang, North

Korea. The photo shows refugees crawling over a collapsed bridge as they escape the

coming armies of Communist China. The photo shows the devastating means to which

humanity is willing to go in order to live out free and just lives. Escaping injustice is

something which has been ongoing since human civilizations first arose. It is sad, to see

such innocent people being forced to risk their lives under the fault of political control.

This constant battle between political balance and justice is a struggle which is

best resembled by that of King Arthur from T.H Whites novel, The Once and Future

King. In Whites novel, King Arthur struggles to find the best system of control for his

kingdom. Listening to his advisors, he tries to instill the best way to make his kingdom

stable and civilized. Stability and peace is within the desires of most humans. Both the

King Arthur and the refugees escaping from communism are on the sought for peace.

This desire to live in safe conditions unfortunately acts as force upon innocence.

Although the photo from 1951 was taken decades ago, it still has relevance and

meaning to the world today. This is evident because photography and especially

historical photographs shows viewers that no matter how much time has past, humanity

continues to make the same mistakes.
