In the last few years, the scientific community has been warning

governments and international institutions of that if there is no drastic

change in the way that the planet is being treated, next generations will not
be able to live on Earth. Scientists and experts agree with each other that
one of the first steps towards solving this problem would be by encouraging
people to be more environmentally friendly.

Due to the fact that most children follow their parents behaviour, they
should be taught by their parents from childhood to respect the environment
by following their role model. Recycling waste, using renewable energies or
using more efficient cars are some easy examples that could be
demonstrated by parents. As well as parents, teachers could help in this
task by teaching children what they can do by themselves to try and solve a
little part of this problem. It is through parents and teachers that children
can be made aware of how to be more environmentally friendly that could
do the best the next generations would have the option to live in a better
world.

As well as schools staff and parents, the media could have a very important
role in this task. Currently, it seems that TV programmes about nature are
more popular among children than ever before. Taking advantage of this,
children could learn about how to avoid that endangered species from
becoming extinct by preserving their habitats. Creating appealing
documentaries about new and more efficient technologies would make
children want to improve their planet by doing their part.

In conclusion, considering that the media being is an important tool for

making people and especially young people aware, it is the parents and
teachers living close to them that have to play the key role in teaching
children how to become environmentally friendly.
