PSA Script:
In Maryland alone this past year, there have been six logged cases of Zika virus among travelers,
including one person in the Baltimore metro area. Zika has been the cause of devastating birth
defects in newborn children and of neurological and potentially deadly heart problems in adults.
Public health officials are warning pregnant women and adults to stay vigilant and protect
themselves against mosquito bites which are the primary cause of transmission. Call your doctor
if you think youve been exposed. For more information contact the Maryland Department of
Health and Mental Hygiene at 877-463-3464 or at dhmh.maryland.gov.
