ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study is to reduce and reuse a waste which is a common problem by
most of the country. The rubber tires are waste which is barely recycled or reuse but
potentially and can be effectively used as a filter because of its property such as
compressibility. By using it as a filter, the accumulation of waste rubber tires can be
reduced as well. Drainage is used to prevent flooding between the streets but it has flaw.
The drainage cannot protect itself from silts that can also accumulate within culvert pipes.
By transforming waste rubber tires into crumbs can be used as a medium of a filter. Using
crumb rubber tires as a filter are more compressible making its filtration rate more
effective and able to filter silts carried by the rainwater. The filtration rate shows that the
silts were reduced by using hydrometer test method. The flow rate of the filter with
crumb rubber tires was tested by bucket test method and found to be effective enough for
a normal flow of rain water. The result shows that the filter with crumb rubber tires is
effective to its purpose as filter and reducing the accumulation of was rubber tires
that can help the environment.
