Subject: Information on the Chancellor Change

Greetings, OCC faculty and members of the Academic Senate. Robyn Tennison and I met today with John
McCulloch, the chair of the board of trustees, and Peter Provenzano, the new interim chancellor, at their
request. Here is a quick summary of what was addressed at the meeting.

Chair McCulloch repeated the boards position that a philosophical difference with Dr. Meyer about the
future direction of the college was the reason for the change in the chancellor position. He said the board does
not plan to issue any further statement or additional details at this time.
Chair McCulloch declared that Mr. Provenzano has the full support of the board, which wants Peter to
move the college forward with the implementation of the strategic plan and other major projects that are in the
works. The board has no immediate plans to conduct a search for a permanent chancellor; it intends to let
things settle down for a bit before a search will be conducted.
Peter expressed his belief in the established chain of command and his clear support for Bill MacQueen
and Cathey Maze to lead their respective areas (human resources and academics).
Peter and John both declared their intention to improve communication and engagement among faculty,
the board, and the administration. They both want to facilitate the creation of an environment in which (1) all
invested parties are involved in creating as well as implementing plans, policies, and procedures, and (2) all
groups in the college are better informed about both the decision-making process and the decisions
themselves.
Peter further declared his intention to begin to attend Senate meetings as often as possible as a way both
to support Cathey and the Senate and to keep better informed of college affairs.
Finally, they both stated their hope that the commencement ceremony on Saturday will remain focused on
our students and their achievements.

Robyn and I both expressed our support for the interim chancellor and our intention to encourage the members
of our organizations to participate in these endeavors.

Thank you for your attention. The information in this email is intended to be communicated to the college
community; please feel free to share it with any of your fellow employees.
