And as the name suggests, its a type of non return valve (in the extraction line from
turbine to process header ) to avoid any back flow from the extraction side( towards
turbine) which might push steam in turbine and forcing it to rotate beyond control even
when turbine is under TRIPPED condition.
Its usually quiet dangerous when their a a driven equipment which is not bi-directional.
Hence an oil relay, operated through governor, is provided which closes this valve and
avoid any back flow of steam from extraction line, to turbine.
