Passive Solar Design Analysis and Discussion

1. The new window could be larger if the roof overhang were to be extended or a second

awning were to be installed over the second story window.

2.

3. The passive solar gain of a skylight is greater than that of a window because sunlight directly

passes through the skylight uninhibited at both winter and summer angles. Thus, when

compared to a well-designed wall window, a skylight will make the house warmer in the

summer and would keep the house at roughly the same temperature in the winter.
4. If this house were to be closer to the equator, the angle for summer sun would be lower and

the angle for winter sun would be higher.

5. An awning would have to be larger in order to block summer sun to accommodate for being

closer to the equator.
