INTRODUCTION
Project "At the crossroad" was created as a result of cooperation between the Department of
Archaeology and Applied Art Collection of National Museum in Zrenjanin. The objective of the
project, established in mid 2016, is to present to the general and professional public in a form of
exhibition dozens of items from the religious domain from the area of Banat, ranging from IX to XX
century. In order to successfully conduct this project, it was necessary to systematize the material in
the existing collections, to gather new acquisitions through fieldwork, and to prepare the items for
display using conservation and restoration processes. Department of Archaeology presented the
Christian sacred objects from the Middle Ages, including selection of crosses, corpuses and rings with
the motive of the cross. Applied Art Collection presented various materials from the period of the new
century and the most recent period in the form of crosses, statuettes, cressets, icons, and other religious
displays. The pinaclle of the whole process is this catalog, which is the result of research and
professional work with the museum items. Its importance is even greater if we take into account that
only five items were previously published in some publications. The realization of the project "At the

crossroads" illuminated one segment of Christian culture, tradition and art which is nourished in the
Banat area for more than a thousand years.
