Skeletal Muscle Lab Report

In the Skeletal Muscle Lab we examine the different types of skeletal muscles throughout the
vast regions of the body. (Figure 2A,B,C, and D). A rabbit muscle Lab was created to further
understand the physical feature of skeletal muscles. While Relaxed, The muscle tissue seemed
to be in smooth rows (as you can see in Figure 1A). After the first appliance of ATP with salt the
solution created a dense wave of contractions which affected the muscle tissue working from
the outer domain to the inward domain ( as you can see in Figure 1B). After 3 minutes of waiting
another solution of ATP was applied and the effect was not as dramatic as the first application of
the solution. In fact the muscle cells looked exactly the same as Figure 1B, and the the
difference in length and width varied also. The change in length( an average of 68.33mm)
before the ATP solution dropped (to an average of 51.66mm) when the solution was applied.
The result can only be explained by pointing out the absorption of the solution caused the
muscle tissue to shrink in length but gain in width. Even with the difficulty to identify the muscle
fibers and their exact length and width it was later solved by using a different means of
measurement. The Mink lab was used to give us a better perspective of the physiology of the
mink and the different muscles of the body.
