Articles of Confederation

The Articles of Confederation created a weak government for the United States.

Congress could not impose taxes or regulate trade, there was no executive or judicial

branch, and nine of 13 states had to agree to pass laws.

Congress was given little to no power in the articles of confederation. They were

not permitted to created to tax people and they also could not regulate trade. When the

Constitution was made, there was still a limit on Congresss power. The first three

articles explain the powers and limits that each branch has. The other two branches

help balance out the legislative branch which is called checks and balances. The

checks and balances is key to helping the legislative branch.

They formed a war of states this in confederation states. It was drafted on July

12, 1776 they approved the first copy. Congress was small and consisted of ten states.

They set up a six supreme court. The Articles of Confederation was an agreement of

the 13 states. There were many debates that had to do with the article. Many states

were upset but many were relieved the confederation was passed.

The Articles of Confederation hurt the United States more than helping it.

Congress could not pass our taxes or even the trade. There was no executive or judicial

branch which are very important to run a healthy government. They also could not pass

law if nine out thirteen did not agree.
