Personal Insight Questions

2. Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem solving,
original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe how you express
your creative side. Being able to think of something and draw it out or construct it

Being creative to me means having the ability to think of something and being
able to draw it out, write it down, or constructing what you are thinking about.

4. Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or

worked to overcome an educational barrier you have faced.

During my sophomore year of high school I participated in the U.S. Department of

Education CTE Makeover Challenge with our schools architecture club. Entering this
competition helped me improve my skills in communication and in architecture.

6. Describe your favorite academic subject and explain how it has influenced you.

My favorite subject throughout high school has been drafting. I love this subject because I want
to study architecture after high school. This subject is allowing me to have early knowledge of
the types of different work that is going to be expected of an architect. I want to be able to turn
this into a career after college and my dream is to be able to open up my own architecture firm to
continue to do what I love.

8. What is the one thing that you think sets you apart from other candidates applying to the
college or a job?
Something I have not mentioned is that I have a second passion other than architecture and that
is music. I have been in band since sixth grade. My passion for music has continued to grow
throughout high school after I joined our schools marching band my freshman year. I started out
learning how to play the clarinet from sixth grade all the way up until the beginning of my
sophomore year. I have a lot of fun still playing clarinet. At the end of my freshman year my
friends convinced me to learn how to play the trombone. I loved the idea and I did it. However,
at the beginning of this year my junior year I decided to face a new challenge and I began to
learn to play the tuba. I have enjoyed playing the tuba with my other friends and I will continue
to play it for my final year of high school.
