Lit Analysis

Alex Sanchezs novel, Bait, teaches the reader about trust and opening up to feelings. The

novel is about a 16 year old boy named Diego who gets himself into trouble, and he is trying to

confess to the source to his anger problems. The topics covered are trust issues, suicide, and

homophobia. Sanchez teaches the reader that Its better to open up to people by Diego talking to

Mr. Vidas.

Alex Sanchez states that's important to open up to feelings. According to the author, he

states that You're opening up to a lot of feelings. Vidas regarding his familiar calm. (Sanchez

89) This shows that Diego is opening to Mr.Vidas. This also means that Diego trusts Mr. Vidas

with his problems. This supports the thesis because it mentions trust issues.

Shame is a part of opening up to people. Sanchez states that Diego glanced away,

ashamed for her to see him like this, being led to a criminal. (Sanchez 125) This shows the

reader that Diego feels ashamed to see his mother. This also shows that Diego feels bad for what

he's done. This is important because the novel mentions shame and regret.

Diego is embarrassed to open up to Mr. Vidas about his feelings. According to the text,

Sanchez states Now he felt exposed and raw, like he wanted to crawl out of his skin and start

life as someone different. (Sanchez 64) This shows how Diego is feeling in court. This also

states that Diego has a hard time opening up to people. This is important because the novel Bait

mentions embarrassment.

Alex Sanchezs novel, Bait, teaches the reader about trust. It's important to open to

feeling because your feelings will eventually bottle up. Regret is a common feeling when

opening up to people. Sometimes it can feel embarrassing to open up to people. I type this paper

to become a better typer and writer.
