On May 6, the Lewisville Districts bond election polls will close.

Voters will
decide if a bond of $737 million that will be used for school improvements across LISD
will be approved.
A committee of 80 people, including parents, community members, and school
board members, composed the bond. The funds of the bond will go toward the
refreshment of buildings as well as the construction of new ones in the school district.
Over 20,000 man hours went into putting together the bond proposal, member
of the LISD school board Jenny Proznik said.
The bond has proposed two major projects to Hebron. The projects include a
multi-purpose facility and an indoor athletic center.
The multi-purpose facility is sometimes called an arena, but it's used for so
many other things, Proznik said. I mean you could do orchestra concerts in there and
you could do band concerts in there. So it can be used for a variety of things other than
just an arena or sports center.
While the bond has made plans for new facilities in LISD, it is unsure when the
projects will be completed due to the steps it takes and the process.
Thats a crystal ball question it depends on a lot of things, Proznik said. We
have to identify the project, we have to hire an architect, we have to hire a construction
manager. By the way, this all takes a process. So we have to identify the first project,
and thatll be based on need. It takes steps along the way, it does not happen
immediately.
Some of the schools students understand the bond, and have multiple opinions
on how the bond should be managed.
I think a lot of the facilities are unnecessary, and that they shouldnt spend
money on things like that, freshman band member Kate Haas said. They would save
more money if it wasnt spent on these things.
The bond has been carefully put together and voters are to decide whether or not
the projects should be initiated.
Im glad that the committee has put thought into the different projects, LISD
parent Qudsia Qureshi said. I guess itll be interesting to see if it is passed or not
because I know how little people vote on these types of things. Im interested to see the
results.
