Beforeproceedingwiththissectionweshouldnotethatthetopicofsolvingquadraticequationswillbe
coveredintwosections.Thisisdoneforthebenefitofthoseviewingthematerialontheweb.Thisisalong
topicandtokeeppageloadtimesdowntoaminimumthematerialwassplitintotwosections.

So,wearenowgoingtosolvequadraticequations.First,thestandardformofaquadraticequationis

Theonlyrequirementhereisthatwehavean intheequation.Weguaranteethatthistermwillbepresent
intheequationbyrequiring .Notehowever,thatitisokayifband/orcarezero.

Therearemanywaystosolvequadraticequations.Wewilllookatfourofthemoverthecourseofthenext
twosections.Thefirsttwomethodswontalwayswork,yetareprobablyalittlesimplertousewhenthey
work.Thissectionwillcoverthesetwomethods.Thelasttwomethodswillalwayswork,butoftenrequire
alittlemoreworkorattentiontogetcorrect.Wewillcoverthesemethodsinthenextsection.
