NURSE ADMINISTRATOR COMPETENCY RATING Example of How Competency Was Met or Unmet ‘Communication and relationship building Met Unmet *Shared decision making (ATTEND A MEETING) Mer During my practicum experience, | attended a nurse practice and quality council shated governance meeting, This four hour meeting consisted of a staff nurse representative along with nursing administration coming together to discuss and make collaborative decisions on topics such as pharmacy, med safety, quality, patient safety, infection prevention, patient med lists, regulatory, restraints, point of care testing, and documentation. In addition, organizational updates were reviewed, Knowledge of the healtheare environment __ MET *Outcome measurement Durirg my practicum experience, monthly outcome measurements were taken in regards to CAUTI, C-Diff, MRSA, PVAP & CLASBI. These measurements were laid out on a line graph per whole hospital and then broke down even further per unit. These outcome measurements allowed us to visualize and pinpoint the need for quality improvement. These measurements were posted on each unit for all of staff to view and also discussed within staff meetings. Necessary corrective steps were taken, if warranted, through education to decrease these rates and meet hospital goals, * What governing bodies guide your project | Durieg my practicum experience, with guidance from my preceptor | recognized that commonly professional organizations, such as the ANA, are used 10 guide best practice related to staffing and nurse retention, All nurses and healthcare organizations are bound by the ANA code of ethics, scope and standards of practice, and the nurse practice act. On an organizational level, the board of directors and executive level management would be considered soverning bodies that guide staffing and nurse retention. Leadership skills MET NURSE ADMINISTRATOR COMPETENCY RATING Example of How Competency Was Met or Unmet “Ability to use systems thinking/change theory During my practicum experience, | understood, witnessed and was able to apply the systems theory within the healthcare environment. By being immersed into the throughput system that inputs and outputs the flow of patients within a large healtt-care organization I recognized how health care systems behave and how the systems theory allows staff to assess, visualize, analyze and understand the structure and processes of the organization. By assessing the data from the components of the systems, relationships can be assessed and process improvements can be identified. During my practicum, I analyzed throughput data and assisted in the determination of whether throughput issues within the system were directly related to a bed issue or rather a process issue. Bell curves, scatter graphs, bar graphs and pivot tables were utilized. Professionalism MET * Evidence-based clinical management practice ‘During my practicum experience, I had the privilege to immerse myself into a large healthcare organization that is well known for their advancement and aggressive treatment of neuro disorders, specifically strokes. With a prestige neuroscience institute on campus, I was able to witness the implementation of evidence-based clinical management practices. The use of EBP is instilled into staff and ongoing research 1/t neuroscience is being completed on site. As a magnet hospital, EBP is crucial. Managers and directors have placed stroke packets in every neuro and ER patient room. These packets include EBP protocols and assessments in order to increase the likelihood of timely recognition, appropriate intervention and more positive patient outcomes. In addition, managers and directors focus on EBP in all aspects of care, Business skills MET information management and technology During my practieum experience, information management and technology was utilized multiple times in order to distribute information to those who needed it Emails were sent to staff members by managers and directors to make them aware of changes or announcements within their department or educational reminders. Management utilized information management and technology during corporate meetings in order to have face-to-face conferences, share data, and collaborate in decision making NORSE ADMINISTRATOR COMPETENCY RATING —_| Example of How Competency Was Met or Unmet “HR, financial, strategie & marketing management MET — | During my practicum experience, | atiended # nurse termination meeting as ‘well 2s an interview with a potential hire. I was able to witness effective communication during a difficult meeting as well as excellent interview questions and skills. A financial quarterly budget for nurse continued education was reviewed and education requests were granted or revoked based on basic request, fees, and budget. | assisted in the preparation of a nurse meet/greet as well es RN walk-in interviews within the organization. {VAC 1.
