b. Why you performed the service(s)? c. What benefit your service gave to other people? What benefit did you receive? Why do you think it is essential for Christians to perform community service? This year, Lent was very special to me because I was involved in a Community Service project. My project spanned five weeks and enabled me to re-connect with my elementary school parish as well as my home parish. I thoroughly enjoyed assisting my previous school parish in one of their primary fundraisers and also providing me the opportunity to see many familiar faces. What I did for my 20 hours of community service was that I worked at St Richards Parish Fish fry and St Marys of Assumptions fish fry. I cleaned up tables, brought meals to the elderly who couldnt get their meals, washed silverware and replenished the supplies during the Fish fry. Most people who performed community service are probably thinking Oh snap I have to do 20 hours of community service. Some other people probably just did it so they would be done with it. But, the reason of why I performed my services is that every little bit of time you put in volunteering really means so much to the Parish or place youre volunteering at. It shows you how much you care for others by sacrificing your own time, you could be elsewhere. I also did my community service because Volunteering strengthens the community. It brings the people into the community together and closer. As part of a community, the time you spend helps to expand and improve the community. My benefit was that I helped St Marys and St Richards parishes raise money. The service I performed included; helping the elderly get their meals and providing the adult volunteers an extra set of hands. This helped moved people through much faster without any prolonged wait times. The benefit I received was the opportunity to work with other volunteers and being able to commit my hours to assist them. I think its essential for Christians to perform community service because all of us Christians are asked to our part. Volunteer service matters to the Lord, he has called all believers (active priests), so that we can represent God to other people through service. These priestly roles define our Christian walk, and this essential ministry service aspect of faith is the epitome of volunteer devotion.
