FACILITY DESIGN PROPOSAL (45%)


Word Count: Approx. 4,000 (including your checkpoint content from first
assignment)

Key areas to address in part 2 are as follows:

a) Name of your facility


Include an explanation/justification of your name choice

b) summary of the existing literature dealing with the type of


facility that you are proposing
What are the current trends?
Why do you think your idea will be successful? (eg. its a growing
trend, its original, its not been done in this way/place before
etc.)

c) Layout and Orientation

Describe the different areas and physical layout of your facility and
explain how the site has been designed to facilitate visitor use, flows
and movement.

Describe the image you are trying to create (e.g., cheap and
cheerful vs luxurious and elegant).
Describe and justify your layout.
What orientation aids would you use to help visitors find their
way around and manage their time effectively?

d) Design elements
How will you theme the experience?
Describe how you intend to use ambient features (lighting,
music, colour, dcor) to support your image and enhance your
visitors experiences
How will you manage queues, crowding and capacity issues?
Identify three potential impacts of the experience
(environmental and/or cultural) and explain how you would
manage these.

e) Managing the visitor experience

Describe how you will manage the on-site visitor experience to ensure
that visitors have a memorable time:

What activities will be offered?


Will entertainment or educational elements be offered? What will
be the focus of these staged or authentic experiences?
Are there any likely risks to visitors? If so, how would you
manage these?
