Big Business Cartoon

1a) The main point expressed in the cartoon was that business praised by Coolidge in the 1920s.

Coolidge believed in a laissez-fare, hands-off, style government that allowed businesses to

grow.

1b) Coolidge used a protective tariff on international trade which really allowed for businesses to

boom. With the tariff, consumers in the U.S. were almost forced to buy American goods.

1c) The immediate impact was a boom in American business industries. Stock prices were

growing and growing. Unfortunately, this contributes to the causes of the stock market crash and

the Great Depression.
