1. The reason I chose to go into biomedical engineering is because my long-
term goal is to help people. The medical industry is an excellent way to do
that.
2. Ulnar collateral ligament injuries in baseball players. Repetitive throwing
motions necessitate a replacement of the tendon.
3. Surgery to replace the tendon with one taken from another part of the body.
Recovery time is 6-12 months.
4. About 15% of minor league and major league players have had
reconstructive surgery. It is becoming increasingly common in younger
players as well. In little league, close to half of the approximately five million
players aged 6-18 report elbow or shoulder pain during the baseball season.
