Abstract

William Goldings Lord of the Flies depicts the transformation into savagery of a group english

schoolboys stranded on a desert island without adult supervision in the aftermath of a plane

crash. As the story progresses we see each of the characters represents a symbolic meaning. The

boys are eventually break apart into two rival groups lead by Ralph and Jack. They are then

rescued from the savagery and problems the island had to offer.

Conclusion

Ralph, the representative of civilization and democracy, it chosen by the boys to be chief. Piggy

is the embodiment of intellect and rationalism, will always be by Ralph side. Jack is prime

representative of the instinct and savagery and violence, he will break off from the group with his

hunter boys. Jack is also the one who finds the LOTF and worships it, a symbol of disorder and

destruction. Each character is tested to survive and work with different kind of people.
