1. Before going in play mode, it is a good habit to look at the
3D view to make sure the proper probe and wedge are
loaded.

2. The 3D view can be maximized by selecting the 3D view

with the VIEW key and then pressing the maximize
key

3. Go to the View menu

to experiment with the
various options available.

25 min Station 1 Understanding Effect of

Key Parameters
1. Make sure you have the T1-PE-5.0M32E0.8P plugged
into the unit with a T1-35W0D wedge.

2. Press and select the file called Hands_on

Station_1.utcfg

3. Review the main parameters to ensure the configuration

match your needs
I. Look at the config brief view and 3D view to
ensure the proper probe and wedges have
been loaded

4. Go to the Scan Menu and make sure that the Range

15
Path is suitable for your calibration block.

25 min Station 1 Understanding Effect of

Key Parameters
1. See the effect of the focal distance on the imaging by
focusing at short, mid and long distance. See the
images as an example.

2. You can notice that beyond the near field length (approx
66 mm in steel), the focusing is no longer effective.
However, at very short distance, the beams diverge very
quickly and we are blind in the region of interest.

3. Both scans are identicals.

Change can be done on
one scan only to obserse
the changes.

25 min Station 1 Understanding Effect of

Key Parameters
1. File size is critical in many situations. The sub-
sampling parameter can be used to reduced the total
number of samples to be recorded.
2. The effect of using the sub-sampling is seen in both the
A-scan and S-scan.

parameters accordingly.

21

Station 2 Manual Inspection with S-scan

6. While adjusting the parameters, confirm with the 3D view that they
match the weld preparation.

7. If a parameter turns red, it means the weld geometry is not valid

and a parameter needs to be adjusted. See example below.
