Personal Evaluation

Over the course of this year, I learned so much in Italian class. The scope of IB

Italian I focused mainly on Italian culture and important works of Italian literature.

Throughout the course, I gained knowledge that I had not previously been exposed to, as

the previous Italian courses I took mainly focused on grammar and basic comprehension

skills. In addition, IB Italian I elevated these comprehension skills to an entirely new

level, as an important component of the class this year was finding, reading, and

comprehending Italian news articles.

My favorite topic this year was our study of famous Italian poet, Dante Alighieri.

We studied the life of Dante and influence on Italian language, literature, and society. We

also studied his most famous work, La Divina Commedia. In class, we read poems from

the Commedia and analyzed the beautiful language. My very favorite line from the

Commedia is actually painted on the wall of my Italian classroom; it is a line from

Paradiso, and it reads: Lamor che move il sole e laltre stelle. I liked the Dante unit

best because I have a deep love and appreciation for poetry. I have always loved reading

poetry, and studying Dante has inspired me to write my own. My least favorite topic this

year was the Romeo and Giulietta, as I am not a fan of the story.

I truly enjoyed IB Italian I this year. I loved learning more about the culture and

history of my own heritage. I grew immensely as a student, and I feel extremely prepared

for IB Italian II. I cannot wait to see what my next year of Italian studies brings.
