Low-flow Cimv Technology
Camerons low-flow CIMV designed for injection of low dose inhibitors (LDIs) (for wax, scale,
corrosion, etc.) uses a Positive Displacement (PD) flow meter and a micro-needle and seat
throttling valve in closed-loop control. It has been engineered to handle flow rates from
0.5 l/hr up to 90l/hr (0.132 gal/hr to 23.8 gal/hr) and has been packaged to be retrievable
by ROV, whether mounted in either a horizontal or vertical orientation.
Flow Measurement
The low-flow CIMV PD flow meter gives direct readings
of flow. It operates using a rotary piston, of which each
revolution transmits a discrete volume of fluid so that each
rotation can be directly translated into a flow rate based on
the pistons frequency. This improves the flow rate physical
measurement accuracy.

Medium-flow Cimv Technology
Camerons medium-flow CIMV is designed for injection of Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) and
methanol as part of a subsea hydrate mitigation strategy. It has been developed to handle the
contaminated regenerated MEG stream. At the heart of the medium- and high-flow CIMV
technology is our patented non-intrusive ultrasonic flow meter, developed in conjunction with
Camerons CALDON advanced ultrasonic time-of-flight flow meters. The robust non-intrusive
particulate tolerant nature of the medium- and high-flow CIMVs means that no subsea filtration
of the MEG or methanol is required.

High-flow Cimv Technology
Developed for the ultra-high flow MEG and methanol requirements of large gas projects, during
startup or for continuous hydrate inhibition, Camerons high-flow CIMV is designed for a flow
range of 160 l/hr to 26,500 l/hr (42 gal/hr to 7000 gal/hr) and tested in excess of 30,000 l/h
(7925 gal/hr). Even at these ultra-high design flow rates, the large diameter nominal through bore in
Camerons high-flow CIMV result in average erosion velocities below the API recommendation and,
with a tungsten carbide throttling element based on the field-proven MOV production choke trim
technology, risk of trim erosion is greatly reduced.
The large through bore and non-intrusive ultrasonic flow meter also result in an inherently
low-pressure drop device, with minimal pressure head above the injection pressure required.
For example, with the valve set at 80% open, a pressure drop of only 6.9 bar (100 psi) is
required to inject fluid at 25,000l/hr (6604 gal/hr).

Through our in-house deep water simulations our CIMV technology has been exposed to installed
operating project conditions for extended periods, at water depth hyperbaric pressure, sea bed
temperatures and flowing project specific chemicals. These deep water simulations allowed the CIMVs
to be functioned across their entire operating ranges simulating many years of operation in an 8 to 12
month endurance test.
Our high-flow CIMVs were tested with regenerated MEG (containing 10% dissolved salt) and flowed over
50 million liters (314,490 barrels) of the fluid while completing over one million 1/2% movements and 100
hours of cavitation testing without any signs of degradation to the CIMVs performance or accuracy.
Our deepwater test facilities remain available for future CIMV chemical trials.
