Introduce the topic, Today we will be talking about
Its called the gentlemans sport
o Was in the first Olympic games, when Baron Pierre de Coubertin brought back
the Olympic games in 1896
I will be showing the different Weapons, (Foil, Epe, Sabre) and what the differences are

Why is it relevant? Can anyone answer this question for me? (have them come write it

Can anyone tell me the three basic weapons used in fencing?
o Foil- can only hit the torso
o Epee- any part of the body is fair game
o Sabre- waist up is the target
o The one I am passing around is an Epe
Can anyone guess which weapon is the most common, especially in Europe?
What is one thing that you notice about the way that Indigo and Westley fight in the clip
I showed you earlier?
o Big movements.
o Foot work.
o Eye contact.

o Jujie luan- has a fencing club in Edmonton, represented China in the 1984
Olympic games in fencing (foil)- national hero, first women from China to win a
Gold medal in fencing, she also went to 2008 Olympic games in China for Canada
o Sherraine Schlam- Brooks Alberta, been to 4 Olympic Games (2000, 2004, 2008,
2012) and been to at least 6 World Championships in Epe.
