Counterterrorism Policies
In America, terrorism is something we all fearand try our best to keep out of our country
by taking measures that may or may not be agreeable with some people, Counterterrorism is a
political or military activity that is designed to prevent or thwart acts of terrorism. There have
been many accounts of terrorist attacks in America and there has been a rise in them considering ban ‘
all of the recent encounters in the past 2 years. As of right now, ISIL and al-Qa’ida considered
the biggest global terrorist threats and the people that are involved with these groups are ;
everywhere in the world. In America specifically, the government tracks suspicious people,
arrests possible terrorists, and takes other serious actions to try to stop attacks before they
happen. The recent rise in terrorism makes everything unsafe and there needs to be more actions
taken to protect America from these attacks so the citizens do not feel unsafe or threatened.
Counterterrorism policies are put into place to protect our society from the dangers of terrorist
attacks, but many people are against these policies because they think it segregates a specific nw
they find unfair, however, we need these guidelines to make sure we are
ap te
‘group of people which
“ is i nee cae tin yineveryone from the threat of another possible terrorist attack. On June 28th, 2011, President
Obama gave a speech about the terrorist issue we still face to this day and his strategy that he
wanted to use. In President Obama’s speech he states, “To defeat al-Qa'ida, we must define with
precision and clarity who we are fighting, setting concrete and realistic goals tailored to the
specific challenges we face in different regions of the world” (Obama 1). Within this specific
strategy, Obama wants to create a solid plan with goals that are not impossible for us to achieve
so we can reach our ultimate goal of stopping terrorism and the al-Qa'ida threats. Another quote
within President Obama’s speech says, “As we apply every element of. ‘American power against
al-Qa’ida, success requires a strategy that is consistent with our core values as a nation and as @
people.” (Obama 1). In this quote, Barack Obama is clarifying that he does not
hin our nation’s values boundary or else it could
t want to do
anything too extreme and radical that is not wit
easily backfire on us. Both of these statements exemplifies how we could create a peaceful
strategy to keep our country safe without taking a risk that could possibly backfire on us and put
everyone in danger.
Over the years, many policies to counter the terrorist attacks
regulations that were set into place, for example,
have been set up and applied
into our society. We have different policies and
person needs to go through a thorough security search
in airports. When we go to airports, everyand Pak

situations because they think that this is related to racial profiling in a negative way.
There are all sorts of religions in the United States, but due to the rise in terrorism people
tend to discriminate certain group of people that we associate with terrorism. Another quote in
President Obama's speech explains, “In just a few short months, those movements achieved far
more political change than al-Qa’ida’s years of violence, which has claimed thousands upon
thousands of victims- most of them Muslim.” ae 1). The al-Qa'ida swept across the Middle
East and Northern Africa which contained many Muslims, and most of the Muslims ended up
joining the terrorist group. Now in America, everyone associates Middle Eastern people with
being terrorist just based on how they look which is a form of racial profiling. However, in order
to keep America a safe nation, we need to apply our policies and regulations against suspicious
people. We do not mean to discriminate a certain group of people, we are just applying our
policies and regulations to make sure we are not in any danger. Many Middle Eastern people
would argue that this is very unjust that we are just judging them based off of looks, but we can
never be too sure about anything anymore.aos sognlations are not in any way Supposed to harm anyone, they are just merely supposed to
