Writing Assignment Prompt for Essay #2

Writing Prompt:

Write an essay in response to our readings for this unit; Jimmy Santiago Bacas Singing at the

Gates and Mary Phiphers Writing to Change the World.

Your essay needs to show the significance about the correlation between these two pieces of

literature and how they show that writing can impact the world around us, as well as, our daily

lives.

Thinking About the Assignment:

How do these authors show their imagery throughout their writing to help express what they are

trying to communicate to the reader and their claims of how writing affected their lives for the

better?

Analyze the different styles of writing shown within the different pieces of literature and what

different impacts these styles of writing have for the reader.

Create an argument of how these authors use change writing for their own individual idea of

justice.

Writing Requirements:

Your essay needs to be complete with a thesis, body paragraphs, conclusion, and textual evidence

to support your argument.

You must use;

- Bacas and Phiphers book

- Show the use of change writing

Rhetorical Situation, Analyzing Texts, and Writers Reference: Writing Strategies.
